"Her eyes are brown and beautiful, yet empty and sad. I used to talk to her occasionally, and she was glad."

This is a public service announcement. I want to take a moment to talk about depression. We have all dealt with depression at one time or another. Some people may have been dealing with depression for years and ultimately they will begin to contemplate suicide; because they no longer see an alternative and they have lost hope. The reason this happens is because your brain works like a computer. It records data and creates patterns, it’s an evolutionary trait that allows us to improve our day to day functions. It’s the reason why a boxer who has trained for years will instinctively duck and pivot to avoid incoming blows. It’s the reason why I sometimes answer my phone and say “Samsung technical support”, and it’s the reason some people find themselves stuck in depression for years. When that happens your brain has literally rewired itself to be sad, disrupting the balance. And it takes courage to break that pattern, the courage to get up when you can’t find a reason, the courage to force a smile when you’re not necessarily happy, and if you do that consistently you will break that cycle of unhappiness and you will have effectively cured your depression. It won’t be easy but remember that on a biological level emotion is nothing more than a chemical reaction. Happiness is defined as serotonin and stress is defined as cortisol and there are literally life hacks that you can perform to regulate those levels. Meditate, exercise, eat healthy, have sex, hug somebody for fuck’s sake. The list is endless but it’s up to you to make the conscious decision to reverse that pattern. Remember that suicide is not the answer, it is neither glorious nor poetic.
"The girl I’m meant to be with will never give up on me."
